“Feeling the beat of the wild jungle at every step, immersed in pure nature and captivated by the countless sounds of native birds is an unrivalled experience.” ARGENTINE WILD EXPEDITIONS.
The province of Jujuy preserves a large proportion of the Argentina’s high-altitude jungle: the Yunga. A refuge for countless species, it represents one of the ecosystems with the greatest biodiversity in the country.
Jujuy also offers the possibility of observing emblematic species in different natural environments such as the cloud forests, dry Chaco region, high altitude grasslands and rivers which make up the characteristic landscapes of northern Argentina.
The Private Nature Reserve ‘Ecoportal de Piedra’, bordering Las Lancitas Provincial Park, protects 800 hectares of different environments where you can observe Brown Brocket deer, tapirs peccaries, pumas, monkeys, among others, and it has a record of more than 300 species of birds.
This magnificent reserve offers the possibility of looking for nocturnal species, waiting in a hide, observing several species of birds, meters from the lodge, in hummingbird feeders and in the surroundings.
One of the main targets of this destination is the Taruca. This beautiful deer is a protected species, declared a National Natural Monument. Closely related to the Huemul deer and threatened throughout its distribution, it finds refuge in the ‘Puesto las Tarucas’ Private Nature Reserve (declared to be of National Environmental Interest), which provide a calm and safe environment and thus tarucas get closer to the lodge.
Another site of interest for nature lovers is the Calilegua National Park, where it is possible to photograph countless native fauna, especially birds. Located in the centre of the province of Jujuy and crossed by steep mountain ranges, it protects a significant part of the Yungas (high-altitude jungle), as well as an enormous variety of native fauna, including several endemic species.
